Successful Facilitation Starts With a Plan

Successful facilitation plans include the following components: 

  • Strong opening—which may include using icebreakers, reviewing the agenda, clarifying the purpose and objectives, establishing ground rules, and explaining the purpose of the parking lot.
  • Tasks to be completed—which can be facilitated with guided discussions, questioning techniques, transitions, stories, action planning, debriefing sessions, and so on.
  • Effective closing—which often summarizes the key points
