, a comprehensive collection of talent development (TD) concepts, definitions, methodologies, and examples that lays the foundation and guiding principles for those who develop talent in the workplace.

Originally introduced in 2020, the TDBoK Guide is grounded in the Talent Development Capability Model™, a framework to guide TD professionals on the knowledge and skills they need to develop themselves, others, and their organizations. Capabilities include instructional design, training delivery and facilitation, change management, and more.

The TDBoK Guide:

  • Defines best practices needed for success in the industry
  • Enables easy access to theories, models, and insights in the TD field
  • Offers a complete set of terminology and definitions—a common language—for the TD profession
  • Ensures alignment among professional resources to expand and develop a TD professional’s career—from credentials and courses to conferences, publications, and online content

Tony Bingham, ATD’s president and CEO, states, “We’ve scanned the environment, curated perspectives from industry leaders, and surveyed those who perform the work of talent development to capture the most relevant and up-to-date information on what you need to know and do to guide the workforces you support in these complex times. The development of human capability, knowledge, and skills is critically important to our society. This is about more than training—it is about fostering cultures of lifelong learning that drive performance, innovation, engagement, and opportunity. The TDBoK Guide is a blueprint for learning at this crucial time and one that will help you become part of a global community that creates a world that works better.”

The second edition of the TDBoK Guide represents an exciting new phase for this resource. In response to its popularity, ATD has expanded the distribution for the TDBoK Guide, second edition, offering it in multiple formats for the first time, including print and e-book formats. It continues to be offered via online access for those registered for ATD’s certification prep courses and now to active ATD members.
