Alexa, I’m Feeling Overworked and Stressed. Can You Help?

Does your body hurt from being overworked? Are you stressed out from having too many responsibilities and not enough time? It’s time to save some face, give yourself some grace, and ignore the human race while you make some space to focus on you.

You are not alone. I don’t know one person who isn’t experiencing some sort of fatigue, burnout, or mental health crisis.

Nearly two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, roughly six in 10 US workers who say their jobs can mainly be done from home (59 percent) are working from home all or most of the time. While working from home can lead to dramatic productivity and better employee morale, it can also have some unintended consequences on the body and mind that your human resources department is scrambling to remediate.

According to the National Library of Medicine regarding musculoskeletal disorders, low back pain was referred by 41.2 percent of home workers and neck pain by 23.5 percent of them. If your screen time exceeds four hours per day, how much longer can you hunch over your devices without there being severe long-term consequences? These issues are preventable with the right approach. You could hire a health and wellness coach and force yourself to get to the gym, but let’s be realistic. The time pressures we each face and higher costs for personal attention add to the excuses for why your laptop has a priority over your life.

Imagine starting your day with a meditation routine and taking a break from work to follow a yoga sequence—and all without pushing a button. All you had to do is use the sound of your own voice.

To be sure, the personal health and wellness market is flooded with routines, plans, and schedules that tell you what you should do; however, it is overwhelming to try to discern what to do, in the right order, at what time of day, while being in the right location, and who should be your coach. Sure, you could spend hours searching YouTube for the best video to watch at home to tell you what to do. Then what? Search again?

You could download an app to your mobile device to watch a yoga sequence; however, your app doesn’t talk back. It doesn’t get to know you. It doesn’t personalize your plan without you entering in data into your phone. Think of how many steps it takes to get started with your wellness routine from your app. You have to find a device, log in, scroll through your list of mental or physical exercises, and select one. If the app is hooked up to the TV, you have to push the button or, heaven forbid, find the remote.

But what if there were a way for you just to talk to your TV and it would know what to say, show you what to do, and hold you accountable to your personal health and well-being standards? The only person you need to impress when talking to the TV is yourself. The focus is you, not who is who.

We are solving these problems by programming an Alexa skill to work with Fire TV and other Echo devices. Once this voice app is enabled from your smartphone, computer, or Alexa-enabled device, you will be guided on a journey to find the best health and wellness routines to suit your needs.

So, I’ll ask again…imagine starting your day with a meditation routine and taking a break from work to follow a yoga sequence—and all you had to do is use the sound of your own voice to request the instruction.

More than 150 million Fire TV devices have been sold worldwide. The Fire TV cube and Fire TV stick are the devices you plug into your TV, whereas the Echo Show devices have touch screens that can play videos or movies too. Users will benefit from a visually captivating interface, an intelligent on-demand assistant, and content created by health and wellness experts ready for you to consume. Currently, the Yoga TV Studio Alexa skill is in development mode and available to a select group of users who can request permission to receive early access.
